Big Life Goals: My Ultimate Life Bucket List (and why you should have one, too)

The legendary college football coach and analyst Lou Holtz once said that “If you are bored with life, if you don’t get up every morning with a burning desire to do things – you don’t have enough goals.” 

Now, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re probably familiar with the message around the power of goal setting, and more specifically, movies like The Bucket List that underscore the importance of having goals-and especially a collection of one-day and some-day goals and dreams that you would like to accomplish at some point in your life. 

From extreme ideas like summiting Mount Everest, skydiving or backpacking California's Lost Coast, to more simple things like singing in the rain, taking a walk through a windy park, or staying home to watch a movie with a loved one, a great bucket list can add new meaning and excitement to everyday life.

As more and more items are added to and checked off the list, excitement and motivation grow. Creating a bucket list can be fun and exciting, but most importantly, it can be inspirational.   

So don’t wait for that “perfect time” to begin. The reality is that it’s never too early get started on a list of incredible things to do before you die, and because life goes by so quickly, it's important to get as many amazing experiences checked off your list as soon as you can.  Says Annete White at the life list focused website Bucket List Journey, "Make your bucket list not because you are dying but because you want to live!

And that’s the point, isn’t it? 

And as an added bonus, in what scientists term the spill-over effect, when we make progress towards attaining our goals in one area of life, we raise our overall life satisfaction in other areas of life, as well.  By pushing the envelope in one area of life, by taking risks and seeking out adventure, you’ll not only become happier, you might just end up being fearless and unstoppable!

So for today, ask yourself what are some unforgettable adventures to be had before you die? What can make this a year one for the record books?
