Look at Setting These Top 3 New Year's Resolution Ideas

goal setting

The New Year is a great time to think about new opportunities and to encourage your personal growth.  With the turning of the calendar provides a clean canvas and a fresh start with plenty of opportunity for change. By setting specific goals in different areas of your life, you'll be much better inclined to keep your resolutions and achieve your goals.

But beware that some resolutions are better worth setting than others. Change can be a rocky road with many challenges and obstacles along the way. Done properly, they can contribute greatly toward helping you to be thriving in life, rather than just surviving.

So look at these 3 New Year's resolutions to keep you growing and focused for the rest of the year

New Experiences. Set resolutions to try new things, experience new places, challenge living outside your comfort zone, and learn about yourself all at the same time. Maybe you can set goals about new learning, new friends, or a new job or living arrangements. Maybe your new experience is to travel somewhere or go on a new kind of adventure, like skydiving or something more down to earth, perhaps, like surfing or kayaking.

All these experiences are goal oriented and challenging. And that’s why I share them with you. After all, that’s what makes life interesting and worth living!

So, these kinds of resolutions and goals will help to make your year and your life much more fun and interesting. So consider what new experiences you might want to experience this year.

New Creative Outlets.  Find a new outlet to express yourself by adopting a new kind of creative goal. There’s a great variety of creative endeavors, so create a resolution that can lead you a greater sense of personal enrichment and development.

So, what creative outlets interest you?

To get you started, consider resolutions to try new crafts or creative projects, like start a daily writing activity, say in a journal. Or maybe take up pottery or a new musical instrument.

What about trying out a new recipe at least once a month? Personally, I love Mexican foods, so if you're making tacos or burritos, well...I'm always hungry...!)

Whatever you end up choosing, just settle on something that is new and different and that you think will use a different part of your brain than what you are typically drawn to.

Intellectual Growth and Development. Mindful New Year's resolutions that are growth and development centered are ones that will challenge you to grow intellectually.

Statistically speaking, studies find only about 10% of people actually keep their New Year's resolutions.

That's why building your mental muscle is the key to self-discipline, delayed gratification, grit, and perseverance, according to a recent Inc.com article. And those are the skills you need to become the best physical and mental version of yourself.

Intellectual growth and development is about becoming a little better each day, so choose something that’s easy and accessible, but not within the norm for you like taking a new online goal-setting course or attend a workshop or seminar on a topic interests you, such as photography, scrapbooking, auto repair, or entrepreneurship.

One resolution I strongly recommend for everyone is to challenge yourself to read ten new books this year. Just choose any 10 - 12 books in a subject that will challenge your brain to grow.

Summary

New Year's resolutions are a great way to find new ways to challenge yourself to grow and bring about positive change.  There are many mistakes to be made when setting your resolutions, so just be sure to choose ones  that are challenging and that actually interest you.

Because you won’t grow if they’re routine and easy!

So, resolve to do things that will be challenging and attainable, and enjoy the growth and happiness that comes along with improving your life as a whole.
